MARMELODIAN: MUSIC/LISTEN

Sultry Summer Day

(MARMELODIAN)

We've had over ninety days of ninety degree plus temperatures in East Tennessee this summer.  It's a record.  So hot, reminds me of Brownsville, Texas when I was a little girl.  I grew up in East Tennessee, but every summer meant a trip home for my Dad, home being Brownsville, Texas.  The images in this song are from those sultry summer days in Brownsville.

"Sultry Summer Day: Brownsville, Texas circa 1959" is on my blog page, with more images and memories of those far off days of innocence at my grandmother's house in Brownsville.

Sultry Summer Day

Times buzzes by

Like a slow moving fly

On a hot sultry day

Hours drone and melt away

On a sultry summer day

Underneath the ceiling fan

Deal the cards and play a hand

Sipping tea and crunching ice

In the sultry summer light

It's so hot it don't seem right

And for hours at a time

We all sit out on the porch

While the boys are talking sports

Girls talk about the boys

Children play with dogs and toys

Mothers sit and fan and rock

Daddies  sit and smoke and talk

Say we sure could use some rain

When's this heat wave gonna break?

Repeat first verse
