MARMELODIAN: MUSIC/LISTEN

Hiroshima, My Love

(MARMELODIAN)
Martha Maria
This song is written in commemoration of the victims of the atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The Peace Bell mentioned in the lyrics refers to the Peace Bell installed at Bissell Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a gift from Oak Ridge's sister city in Japan. The uranium for the bomb exploded in Hiroshima was enriched in Oak Ridge. The Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Plant still operates, 24/7 in Oak Ridge, retrofitting, refurbishing and producing nuclear warheads.
Hiroshima Day is commemorated at the gates of the Y-12 plant every year. There are usually arrests. At the same time, there are always demonstrators in favor or nuclear arms.
Hiroshima, My Love

6th of August, 1945
80,000 people died
In a firestorm, burned alive
Hiroshima, my love

Tears and memories mark the place
Morning when men fell from grace
Paper cranes small children make
Hiroshima, my love

Chorus
Ring the Peace Bell in the park
The flame of peace a tiny spark
Pray for peace in every heart
Hiroshima, my love

Born from rubble, born from ash
Willow tress reclaim the past
Let there be world peace at last
Hiroshima, my love

Chorus
